Trial of Amitriptyline in Chronic Depression
1963
The results of a double-blind crossover trial on a new antidepressive drug, amitriptyline, are reported in 20 long-standing hospitalized depressives. Improvement was obtained in 13 (65 per cent.) cases and this was shown statistically to be "very highly significant".
Side-effects were not severe and could be minimized by adjusting the dose to the individual case.
