Correlation and path coefficient analysis in asiatic carrot (Daucus carota var. sativa)

2005
An experiment with 32 diverse genotypes was carried out to assess the association between traits and the contribution towards root yield. The trial was conducted at the InstitutesResearch Farm, Varanasi during winter 2001 and 2002. Correlation studies revealed that root weight was positively and significantly correlated with plant height, root length, root diameter, pith thickness, number of leaves/plant and leaves length, while negative and significant correlation were found with TSS and carotene content at both phenotypic and genotypic level. The characters viz; plant height, root weight with leaves, number of leaves/plant had direct positive effect on yield, while root length, root diameter, flesh thickness, pith thickness, TSS and carotene content had negative direct effect towards yield at the phenotypic as well as genotypic levels.
