Rectenna Array Design for Receiving High Power in Beam Type Wireless Power Transmission

2018
In the paper, rectenna array design is introduced for receiving high power in beam type wireless power transmission. Two rectenna arrays for 2.45 GHz and 5.8 GHz are designed and built, respectively. A patch antenna is used for each rectenna. The rectenna array for 2.45 GHz is made by 600 rectennas combined in parallel and series which can supply about 100 W. The 5.8 GHz array is made by 486 rectennas combined in parallel and series. For verification, the 100 W class rectenna array for 2.45 GHz is demonstrated by using a magnetron and a pyramidal horn antenna while the compact retenna for 5.8 GHz is tested by using an RF source of GaN power amplifiers and a rigid horn antenna. In experiment, a 60 W color LED bar turns on by using the 2.45 GHz rectenna array at 10 m distance.
