The disclosed invention concerns a unique process for the isomerization of a double bond for movement of same from the alpha position to an interior position in an olefinic hydrocarbon molecule. This non-skeletal isomerization process is conducted in the presence of a select aluminosilicate having 8 and 10 member ring channels of a specific and certain size sufficient to permit said double bond isomerization but restrictive to prevent aromatization or alkylation of the double bond olefin molecule within the channels of the aluminosilicate. The instant double bond isomerization process is an key link in the preparation of higher olefins from ethylene utilizing oligomerization, isomerization and disproportionation as chemical mechanisms to convert C2 olefins, in a maximum quantity, to C12 to C18 higher alpha olefins.
