Dramatic expression strategies in the oral production through CLIL

2017
This paper reports an action research project which aims at analyzing the influence of dramatic expression strategies in the level of oral production in English through the CLIL approach in 7th grade students of the Foundation Guillermo Ponce de Leon, Valle, Colombia. To do so, the oral production level of the participating population was identified and dramatic expression strategies through CLIL were implemented. Connections between the strategies and the approach were considered, since both of them foster the functional use of the language and the usage of authentic and real contexts that promote cultural awareness. Finally, the influence of dramatic expression strategies through the CLIL approach after the implementation was determined. Therefore, the Euska Jauralitza proficiency test was used in order to identify the oral level in two moments: diagnosis and final. The study also made use of a journal with categories of observation to the action plan and observation of the participating population. Findings will provide the educational community and the stakeholders with a series of strategies to reach the institutions’ proposed goals both in language and content. In addition, the study will provide relevant information to the specific institution (to which this project belongs to) about its bilingualism process, especially addressing its vision to implement the CLIL approach, the expected profile outcomes and the exposure of the students to achieve such goals.
