Paroxysmal nonepileptic events are time-limited behavioral, cognitive, motor, sensory, and/or vegetative alterations, which, unlike epilepsy, do not depend on abnormal and excessive cortical activity. The two conditions posing the major issues of differential diagnosis with epilepsy are syncope and psychogenic seizures.
