An estimate of the effect of circularly polarized electromagnetic fields on the refractive index of gaseous materials

1995
When gaseous oxygen and gaseous optically active freons are placed in a magnetic field, illuminating them with circularly polarized electromagnetic radiation can cause saturation of resonance transitions in their spectra. In this paper we estimate the degree to which this effect can alter the indices of refraction of these gases.
