In the 4th report, it was seen that the fatigue test of rotary bending for plastic materials has something in common with the failure of plastic gears. This paper describes the fatigue test of rotary bending with some rotational speed5 for plastic materials used for gears, and gives the local temperatures of test pieces which were measured and calculated. The local temperatures in cach test piece were also experimentally measured with an infrared radiation thermometer. On the other hand, the quantity of heat generated as a result of the rotary bending test and the heat emitted into the atmosphere from the rotating test piece surface were calculated. If the quantity of heat generated is equated to that of heat emitted, then it is possible to obtain the equilibrium temperature in the test piece. The measured values were compared with the calculated ones; both were in good agreement with each other. For that reason, the local temperature is influenced by the rotational speed of the plastic test pieces. The results obtainened provide some data regarding the design and used of plastic gears.
