Dermatoglyphics of Klinefelter’s Syndrome

Pattern distortion in sex chromosome errors is less conspicuous than in 13, 18, or 21 autosomal trisomies. The anomalies are essentially numerical, depending upon the nature and number of sex chromosomes, and clearly emerge when a large number of cases of the same kind are evaluated. One clinical condition in which there is a sex chromosome anomaly is Klinefelter’s syndrome. The karyotype most commonly associated with this condition is 47,XXY. For this reason, the dermatoglyphic characteristics of 47,XXY males have been more extensively and frequently studied and are also better known than in males with any other karyotypic complement of Klinefelter’s syndrome.
