Development of improved low-power and direct indicationtype of cosmic-ray snow gauge

1979
Continous refinement and improvement were applied on the established basic design of cosmic-ray snow gauge. The following technical problems have been improved.1) Minimized power consumption which is essential when the snow gauge is used at remote or mountain sites where no commercial electric power is obtainable.2) Automatic correction for the barometric pressure effect on cosmic rays.3) A system for the real-time indication of the water-equivalent of snow depth to round of the statistical fluctuation inherent to cosmic rays.As a result, the power supply necessary for a sensor part of the instrument is less than 30 mW, and a digital printer can give hourly values of the water-equivalent of snow depths in units of centimeters.
