The invention discloses an automatic detection method for surface damages of a conveyor belt and belongs to the field of monitoring of an equipment state. The automatic detection method comprises the following steps: acquiring a conveyor belt operation image by using a linear array camera; establishing a division model capable of inhibiting row-directional non-uniform noises by using the consistency of light intensity sensed by the same line of the image, so as to realize rapid division; carrying out edge fidelity noise removal on a line vector mean value curve and a row vector mean value curve; extracting damage characteristic parameters; and rapidly identifying the surface damages. The automatic detection method for the surface damages of the conveyor belt, disclosed by the invention, is suitable for online detection of the surface damages of the conveyor belt, and can be used for monitoring a surface damage condition of the conveyor belt in real time to repair the surface damages in time, so that the damages are prevented from extension and destructive tearing is prevented from occurring.
