Santa Casilda is a play written by Rafael Alberti between 1930 and 1931, which recreates the medieval legend of a Muslim princess converted to Christianity by altering in some ways its classical sources. The paper provides an analysis of the numerous miracles related in the text as a way to highlight how this rewriting technique privileges the love anecdote over a possible religious interpretation, by disclosing the character of the Muslim woman in a new light, and underlining aspects that literary production had been silencing until the beginning of the modern age.
