DIFFERENTIALLY DIAGNOSED TUMOR FORMING PANCREATITIS -REPORT OF A CASE-

1995
We experienced a case of tumor forming pancreatitis with a difficult differential diagnosis from pancreatic cancer. A 61-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of jaundice. Although the seurm levels of the tumor markers were normal, PTGBD, ERCP and angiography suggested a probability of malignant neoplasm at the pancreatic head. However, serial cholangiography and angiography revealed an improvement in the abnormal findings of the intial images. The patient was diagnosed as tumor forming pancreatitis (TFP). As a result of performing CT, a left renal cancer was incidentally found. A nephrectomy was carried out. Nothing definite has been established to distinguish TFP from pancreatic malignancies. In this paper, we describe the usefulness of serial graphic examinations and tumor marker testing in order to avoid unnecessary surgery.
