The University of Washington Polarized Ion Source

The UW Lamb-shift source1) was installed in March, 1971. Polarization is achieved with the Sona magnetic-field-crossover scheme. Experience gained in operating this ion source during the past four years as well as information obtained from other installations have provided the basis for an extensive redesign completed during the past year. The design effort has been timely in view of the increasing demand for more beam time and intensity at this laboratory.
