General Administrative Functions

1989
The administrative component of the Oncology Center has been a major advocate of the OCIS since its inception. Although the initial funding mechanism for OCIS was from a grant, central core funds procured by the oncology administration have provided the majority of developmental and maintenance activities for the past decade. In fact, the Hospital components of OCIS are a direct responsibility of the Center’s central administration. As described in Chapter 1, during the planning stages of the Oncology Center building in 1975, it was recognized that computer-managed medical data would be of major benefit in providing high-quality care for cancer patients. OCIS was established with that as its fundamental mission.
