constant velocity joint of tripod type has axial retention

1987
The invention relates to a constant velocity joint comprising a part 20 integral form of tripod one 22 of two shafts to be connected and a bell 42 integral with the other of these two shafts 34, the tripod having three trunnions 26asur which are rotatably mounted rollers 36a received in three ways bearing 40a formed in the tulip, and axial holding means for holding the two parts of the joint relative to the other comprising an intermediate piece 44 defining an outer surface spherical convex 46 received in a concave spherical seat 48 formed in the axial legs 50 of the tulip, the intermediate piece having three notches 52a of introduction of the three trunnions of the tripod and a first planar surface 56, perpendicular to the axis of the tripod, which cooperates with a first contact area 58 formed on the tripod 20 and a device 60 for axial retention of the tripod in the intermediate piece. According the invention, the three insertion slots 52a open in an equatorial cavity 54 in which the tripod 20 is movable perpendicularly to its axis, the first planar surface 56 being formed in a bottom of the cavity.
