Comparative Analysis on Mechanical Properties of Luffa and Coconut Coir Fiber Reinforced Polyester Composites

The composite materials continuously alternate the conventional materials by possessing important properties. Due to demand of materials with specific characters, emerging of new materials is growing day by day. Luffa and coconut fiber (coir)reinforced polymer composites are more attractive due to their specific properties and biodegradability. In this work, important mechanical properties like tensile, impact and flexural strength are analyzed from the coir fiber and luffa fiber reinforced composites fabricated by compression molding method. These composites are compared on the basis strength, toughness, hardness and density. From the results obtained, the incorporation of luffa and coir fiber reinforced composites has proven to be a better alternate for glass fiber reinforced polymer composite.
