Kinetic and dynamic processes in a high-current pulsed discharge in helium

1978
Experimental data on the ion composition of the plasma and the electron temperature in a high-current pulsed discharge in helium are analyzed. The electron density near the axis is governed by a competition among many processes, mass transport being one of the most important. Despite the high plasma density in the early stage of the afterglow, ambipolar diffusion plays a major role.
