Variable structure excitation control for generator based on inverse system method

Inverse system method for nonlinear control is introduced to the excitation control for a synchronous generator in this paper. The nonlinear model of the single machine-infinite bus system was transformed to the corresponding pseudo-linear system, and a variable structure controller was designed to the pseudo-linear system. A saturation function was used to eliminate the chatter of variable structure controller. The simulation shows that the stability of the rotor angle and the system were improved under the regulating of this control. The oscillations were effectively restrained, the system stabilized quickly by the control of this regulator when perturbations occurred. The controller demonstrated strong robustness. The dynamic response and transient stability level of power system were effectively improved.
