The reaction of acetic anhydride with N-methylformamide A special kind of reaction gas chromatography, which has been described in a previous paper, is used to investigate the optimal conditions for the reaction between acetic anhydride and N-methylformamide. The influence of molecular ratio and acid catalysts is studied by reaction gas chromatography and the yield is compared with that obtained in the preparative-scale procedure. The optimal reaction parameters evaluated by reaction gas chromatography correspond to those giving optimal yields in the preparative procedure. Reaction gas chromatography enables a considerable saving in chemicals and time.
