Deuteron spin-lattice relaxation and phase transitions in GeD4

Abstract Deuteron spin-lattice relaxation time ( T 1 ) measurements in polycrystalline GeD 4 show discontinuities at the first-order phase transition points at 75.5 and 77.8°K, and a change in the temperature dependence of T 1 at the λ-point at 67.7°K. A deuteron quadropole coupling constant of 82 kHz was obtained.
