VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION AND TRAVEL TIME ESTIMATION BASED ON VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS

This paper describes an algorithm for matching vehicles based on characteristics which are measurable using vehicle detectors and for estimating accurate travel times with short delay. It is shown that a practical level of travel time estimation can be achieved with this algorithm this algorithm if only vehicle height is measurable. Estimation with the additional measurement of vehicle length would yield even more accuracy.
