E×B and angular effects in the avalanche localization along the wire with cathode pad read-out
1983
Abstract A proportional drift chamber with a segmented cathode for the localization of the avalanche along the wire has been used to study the resolution in the presence of a magnetic field perpendicular to the cathode plane ( E × B effect) and for tracks parallel to this plane but inclined with respect to the wires' direction (angular effect). Both effects are dominated by the clustering of the primary ionization. The E × B effect is reduced when several wires contribute to the cathode signal. The angular effect is reduced applying a correction for the fluctuations of the charge on the wires contributing to the cathode signal.
