Enhanced production of secondary metabolite using clustered biosynthetic gene

PURPOSE: To obtain a DNA construct comprising at least two genes related to a route for the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and resulting in the improved production of penicillin in Penicillium chrysogenum. CONSTITUTION: A DNA construct comprising at least two genes selected from the group consisting of genes encoding isopenicillin N synthetase, acyltransferase and ACV synthetase (ACVS) is inserted into a vector, and a host cell is transformed with the vector.
