Dados de conexão Wi-Fi e campus universitário: estudos sobre dinâmica humana e privacidade

2021
Data science has increased the capacity to analyze buildings, infrastructure, and urban systems, expanding the scope and impact of management and design decisions. The interdependence between users' privacy and the responsible algorithms is essential in the methodology. Here, studies inquire into this issue in the face of the General Law for the Protection of Personal Data and the interdisciplinarity involved in the algorithmic formulation. Three studies are presented based on the use of data generated through the Wi-Fi network on the campus of the Federal University of Santa Catarina. The first considers urban mobility due to the academic community commute until the campus entrances. In the second the pedagogical environment and the relationship between internal journeys and the territory are addressed, focusing on face-to-face interactions. The latest study evaluates the demographic density of academic buildings through the number of Wi-Fi connections as one of the possible instruments for envisioning the resumption of face-to-face activities interrupted due to COVID-19. Kepler.gl is used as a tool for visualization and analysis of the data obtained as it facilitates sharing and speed up information visualization. The results provide a greater understanding of extra-campus mobility and intra-campus human interactions, exposing university territorial fragmentation. There is also a conceptual repositioning of the urban production of Smart Cities, considering the concept uncritical adherence as negative while honoring the campus as a public space for learning and social transformation.
