Hábitos de ver televición, conocimiento del medio e identificación social en nirios de Tenerife

1998
This work analyses individual and familiar habits of televison viewing, knowledge of the medium, and identification with people, ethnic and national groups for a sample of children and teenagers from the island of Tenerifr, comparing the effects of age, experience in the medium, and sex. To that end, a descriptive transversal design has been used with three age groups: 8, 11 and 14 years old, employing a questionnaire specially elaborated for this study. Information was collected on three aspects: television viewing habits, identification with people, ethnic groups and countries, and knowlegde of the medium. Data showed that televison constitutes a meta-context in the family setting of the children and adolescents studied. Television affects other familiar activities, subordirzating them to the dominant act of "watching television". The parents in our sample did not regulate either daily television time or contents. Preference for or rejection of ethnic groups and countries appears to be strongly conditioned by television.
