1571 Background: Mammography screening for women in their forties with standard risk is controversial; the recent update from the USPSTF highlights again the issue raised in 1997 by S. Fletcher (Alice in the wonderland of breast cancer screening). Notwithstanding the pro and cons or scientific data and modeling, women's behaviors might enlighten the debate. In France, there is no personal cost for breast cancer screening using mammography, although there are no official recommendations for women in their forties. Thus, the woman's choice should reflect her own preferences without economic bias. Methods: We analyzed French data from the 2008 survey of the EDIFICE program, which is an iterative national health survey based on telephone interviews..
