Science Centers and Museums (CMC) are spaces of great importance for learning, which enable scientific culture to be brought in a more accessible way to the public. Based on a qualitative approach and supported by bibliographic research, this work aims to highlight relevant points in which non-formal education, in the case of CMC, can contribute to access to scientific knowledge and encourage Scientific Literacy. We show, through a brief history, the role of mediation and the activities produced, that these places enable a new view of the scientific nature and enhance their understanding, contributing to access to Scientific Literacy, because in addition to providing a greater critical sense of reality, it makes the population less vulnerable to false news and, as a consequence, allows for a better discernment of what is important in order to have access to citizenship.
