Diversity of Butterflies Fauna in Tehsil Tangi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

s: The butterfly diversity high in herbs, shrubs, grasses and plant diversity and low in closed natural forests. The present study was conducted at Tehsil Tangi during August 2104-May 2015. A total of 506 species were recorded from the 8 quadrates. The most abundant species are plain tiger, Danaua chrysippus Linnaeus, 122/506 (24.1%) followed by Indian cabbage white, Pieris canidia Sparrman, 64/506 (12.6%) and the minimum species collected great black normon butterfly, Papilio polytes Linnaeus, 1/506 (0.2%); yellow pansy, Junonia hierta Fabricius, 1/506 (0.2%); common boran, Euthalia garuda Hewitson, 1/506 (0.2%); followed by Indian red admiral, Venesa indica Herbst, 2/506 (0.4%); Banded treebrwon, Lethe confuse Aurivillius, 2/506 (0.4%); Himalayan sailer, Neptis mahendra Moore, 2/506 (0.4%); Eastern pale clouded yellow butterfly, Colias erate Esper, 2/506 (0.4%) and Blue Tiger, Tirumala liminniace Cramer, 3/506 (0.6%) of the study area, while the most number of species were recorded in the month of April 116/506 (23%) and no species were recorded in the month of January 0/506 (0%) due to high coldness. The family Nymphalidae contributed maximum number of specimens (n: 252) followed by Pieridae (n: 217) and minimum specimens were recorded of family Papilionidae (n: 37). It was concluded that the family Nymphalidae is a dominant and recommended to evaluate and explore the whole fauna of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
