Submerged plant equipment

Abstract This chapter reviews the submerged plant equipment used in undersea communications systems. The focus is on the repeaters and branching units used to construct systems with optical add drop capabilities. Important topics in mechanical design of the repeaters, cables, and joints are discussed as well as issues impacting reliability.
