Relationships between Negative Interrelationship,Anxiety,Exposure to Violent Media and Aggression among Middle School Students

Objective:To explore the relationships between negative interpersonal relationships,exposure to violent media,anxiety and aggression among middle school students.Methods:600 middle school students from Beijing and Jiyuan participated in the investigation.They were examined with The Network of Relationship Inventory(NRI),State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI),Exposure to Violent Media Questionnaire(EVMQ),and Aggression Questionnaire(AQ).Results:① Compared to female students,male students were more frequently exposed to violent media,and had higher scores on physical aggression and lower scores on anger.②Senior high students had higher scores on anxiety and aggression than junior students.③Regression analysis showed that anxiety,exposure to violent media and negative interpersonal relationship had predictive effect on the aggression,furthermore,anxiety and exposure to violent media mediated the relationship between negative interpersonal relationship and aggression.Conclusion:Middle school students' negative interpersonal relationships have direct influence on aggression,in which both anxiety and exposure to violent media exert mediating roles.
