Three-dimensional structure of several trimethylbenzylammonium salts

A quantum chemical study using the AMI method indicated that ring-substituted trimethylbenzylammonium salts have close-to-orthogonal orientation of the aromatic ring plane and vicinal C-N+ bond and stereocontrolled extrusion of irregular ortho substituents bearing relative negative charge from the aromatic ring plane.
