Steven Montgomery: Broken

Steven Montgomery's is interviewed about his work and his current exhibition entitled 'Broken'. Asked whether the title was a comment on specific works in the show or a reference to any socio-political or even personal issues, he replied that it is a sort of composite of all of those. Some aspect of damage, corrosion or implied impermanence unifies all of the work in the show and is the basis for the title. Montogery's work involves industrial, machine-like subjects. Upon arriving in New York in the early 1980s, he began working with materials excavated from dumpsters and unattended construction sites such as electrical conduit and sheet metal.
