Location of Areas Prone to Flood Spreading Using GIS (Ilam Province, Iran)

2020
The present study aimed to locate the areas prone to flood spreading in order to manage surface water resources. Therefore, the information layers of slope, land capability, quaternary units, alluvium thickness and land-use were applied in GIS environment. In this regard, the layers were rated in proportion to their effect on feeding of aquifer. Then, according to the Multi Class Maps model, the weighted layers were combined and the map of areas prone to flood spreading in with four very suitable, suitable, somewhat suitable and unsuitable classes was prepared. The results showed that using this method, large areas can be studied using GIS and remote sensing. The total area of the region studied is 1 280 762 hectares of which 58 524 ha are in a very suitable class, 132 673 ha in suitable class, 245 584 ha in somewhat suitable class and 843 978 ha in unsuitable class. The factors of slope, alluvium thickness, quaternary units and land capability are the most important factors, respectively.
