Process to obtain nanometric powders of zirconium oxide with specific surface modification and its stable tetragonal structure.

2000
Procedure for obtaining nanometric powders of zirconia with its specific surface modification and stable tetragonal structure. The procedure is based on the initial formation of a sol by hydrolysis from a solution of zirconyl chloride and ammonia in an aqueous medium, which later evolves to a gel by polycondensation over time. Hydrogen peroxide is used as a modifying additive said gel structure with a beneficial effect on the final product to increase its molar ratio and an aging time of 30 minutes. With the process of the invention can reach obtained specific surfaces of the upper powders to 100 m {2} / g average particle sizes <10 to 100 nm. Nanoscale powders obtained zirconia are of great interest in the preparation of catalysts, catalyst supports, solid electrolytes and as ceramic raw material.
