The AR-94 device for monitoring eye refraction

1997
It is welt known that about one in three people require vision correction; this number is progressively increasing in recent years. Routine methods of examination take much time, they are rather inconvenient for both the patient and the physician, and they fail to determine such important a parameter as astigmatism. This problem has been successfully solved in many countries by automatic refractometers. These devices allow high quality and efficient diagnosis and correction of vision. Presently, each ophthalmoloNcal or optometric room should be equipped with such devices. Automatic refractometers are particularly suitable for mass-scale examinations (children, military, occupational, etc.). The AR-94 device for monitoring eye refraction was developed at the Manufacturing Association LOMO. The device is designed to measure eye refraction, size and position of major eye sections, astigmatism, and interpupil distance. The duration of the examination procedure is only a few seconds. The approximate cost of the device is $6000, which is about half the cost of foreign analogs.
