Role of Bio-Pesticides in Tea Cultivation

2004
The international movement for sustainable tea cultivation through IPM and organic farming and the advocation of use of bio-rational molecules as an alternative to synthetic chemicals to achieve the sustenance of ecological balance and a better sustained productivity are the point of interest. All the more tea, the most popular common natural drink next to water with most of the nutrition and therapeutic properties, if chemicalised will only lead to cause ill effects in human health world over. Management for integration of non-chemical methods of controlling insect pests by using bio-pesticides is essential for successful organic farming in general and tea in particular. The biopesticides for organic tea cultivation includes botanical pesticides; microbial pesticides of fungal, bacterial, and viral origin, parasites and predators are discussed elaborately.
