The thermal and thermooxidative degradation of polysulphamides

1974
Abstract The kinetics of the thermal and thermooxidative degradation of polysulphamides based on hexamethylenediamine and p , p ′-diphenyldisulphochloride and p , p ′-diphenyl-hydroxidedisulphochloride were investigated. This was carried out by using the thermo gravimetric method under isothermal conditions and during dynamic heating, as well as by investigation of the kinetics of oxygen absorption. The TG curves plotted under conditions of dynamic heating in air are characterized by two sections corresponding to rapid decomposition. The calculated activation energies for the two sections are 28 (280–320°) and 66 kcal/mole (450–550°). Degradation of the polymer in vacuo (350°) leads to practically complete separation of aliphatic parts of the polymer chain, while at the same time approximately 20% of the aromatic portion of the polymer decomposes to form mainly aromatic sulphamides, while 80% participates in the formation of a coke-like residue.
