Clinical and Surgical Management of Pediatric Diseases of the Nasopharynx and Sella Turcica

2021
The nasopharynx is located between the nasal cavity and pharynx. It is bound superiorly by the skull base and posteriorly by the upper cervical spine. For that reason, a wide range of pathologies can be encountered in this location. The ascending pharyngeal artery, ascending palatine artery, ascending cervical artery, and maxillary artery vascularize the nasopharynx. Tumors and diseases of the nasopharynx typically present at an advanced stage due to the capacity of the nasopharynx to harbor growing lesions before the development of symptoms. Nasopharyngeal lesions can be subdivided into benign and malignant tumors. This chapter will highlight the most common lesions presenting in the nasopharynx.
