Distribution of Locusta migratoria manilensis and soil in the locust plague area at Baiyangdian

2004
The texture, humidity,pH value and salinity of soil in the locust plague area Baiyangdian,Hebei were analyzed and the differences between different locust density regions compared to sampling points at this site. The results show that the soil is all of the sandy soil type,pH was 7.26~8.12, and salinity was 0.067%~0.207%, in areas where locust density was30 per square meter. The coarser texture and sparse food resources typical of the sandy soil are a suitable habitat for the Locusta migratoria manilensis(Meyen).Slightly higher humidity and more alkaline conditions increase the survival of this species.Salinity had no obvious effects on the density of L.migratoria manilensis in this study area.
