Device and method for mixing fuel in a gas turbine nozzle

2011
A nozzle (12) includes a fuel chamber (42) and an air chamber (46) downstream from the fuel chamber (42). Fuel passages (32) radially outside an axial centerline (48) of the nozzle (12) include an inlet (52) and an outlet (54) downstream of the inlet (52). A fuel opening (56) in the fuel channels (32) providing fluid flow communication between said fuel chamber (42) and the fuel channels (32). An air hole (58) in the fuel channels (32) downstream of the fuel port (56) providing fluid flow communication between the air chamber (46) and the fuel channels (32). A method of mixing fuel and air in a nozzle (12) prior to combustion contains a flowing fuel to a fuel chamber (42) and flowing air to an air chamber (46) downstream from the fuel chamber (42). The method further includes injecting fuel from the fuel chamber (42) through fuel ports (56) in the fuel channels (32) therethrough and injecting air from the air chamber (46) through air ducts (58) in the fuel channels (32) therethrough.
