Sacred natural sites, biodiversity and well-being : The role of sacred sites in endogenous development in the COMPAS network

2010
Incaraqay in Bolivia is a sacred natural site based around a fort built in the Inca cultural period (1400-1450 AD). Although archaeological data do not report a ritual use, it is currently a sacred natural site and rituals are carried out periodically because Incaracay has come to represent the ancestors. During rituals, people living in the 21st century ask their ancestors for protection and well-being.
