Analysis of antibiotics used in the Afflicated Hospital of Academy of Military Medical Sciences between 2008 and 2012

Objective To evaluate the statusquo and rationality of the use of antibiotics in the Afflicated Hospital of Academy of Military Medical Sciences between 2008 and 2012.Methods The categories,specifications,consumption quantity and consumption sum of antibiotics in the Afflicated Hospital of Academy of Military Medical Sciences were retrieved by means of computer management software and the clinical use of antibiotics was analyzed using the method of defined daily dose(DDD).Results The injection of antibacterials was the leading formulation in the Afflicated Hospital of Academy of Military Medical Sciences.The percentage of consumption sum of antibacterials increased to 18.57% in 2010 but decreased to 13.70% in 2012.The consumption sum of antifungal agents and the DDDs of cephalosporins ranked the first respectively in all antibacterials.There were significant changes in drug use structures,the DDDs and consumption quantity after 2011.Conclusion Antibiotics in the Afflicated Hospital of Academy of Military Medical Sciences are rationally used and the regulatory measures are generally effective,but they are far from perfect.The use of antibiotics should be standardized further to ensure safe and effective drug use.
