Nephrogenic adenoma presenting as a calcified mass

1988
We report a case in which a heavily calcified bladder tumor was found to be a nephrogenic adenoma. Nephrogenic adenoma is an uncommon benign bladder tumor believed to represent a metaplastic response of the bladder urothelium to a preexisting urogenital abnormality [1 -3]. Typically, it mimics the more common malignant bladder tumors, both clinically and nadiographically. To date, approximately 274 cases have been reported in the English-language literature [3]. Although variable amounts of stromal calcification can be found histologically in these tumors [1 ], we are not aware of any previous report of nephrogenic adenoma presenting radiologically as a calcified bladder mass.
