Tool for a collaborative teaching: the app “therapeutic formulary for marine mammals”

In the last years, our group has been using the creative construction of therapeutic formularies for a collaborative teaching of subjects in Pharmacology field in the veterinary degree. A therapeutic formulary is a quick-reference clinical tool that provides prescription and rational use of medicines, collecting a selection of them and offering information from different indexes or concepts. On this occasion, we present the work done by volunteer students, under our supervision, to create a therapeutic formu-lary for marine mammals in an application format for Android platforms. The project has been developed in a multidisciplinary context of students, university professors, veterinarians of the aquatic park The Oceanografic (Valencia) and veterinary associations of exotic and wild animals. From the point of view of the educational innovation, we believe that this paper presents four highlights: 1) establishes a context of learning based on autonomous and collaborative work between students and professors from different fields (Computer Science and Veterinary Medicine); 2) originates a final product requested and useful for specialized veterinary clinicians of marine mammals and developed by the students themselves; 3) adapts the learning, knowledge, and the final product to the field of communication through mobile devices; 4) allows the collaboration of students with professionals and working world.
