adhesive composition has basic macromolecular polyaldehyde and collagen cross-linking process, or gelatin

1996
The invention concerns a biologically compatible, biologically non-absorbable and non-toxic adhesive composition, for surgical and/or therapeutic use in particular for bonding together biological tissues or with an implanted biological material, characterised in that it contains at least one biodegradable macromolecular polyaldehyde of natural origin, in an aqueous solution such as oxidised starch or a polyaldehyde with similar properties of stability. This composition can further contain one collagenic constituent selected among: collagen having partially lost its helical structure, non-hydrolysed, consisting mostly of alpha chains, rendered soluble in an aqueous medium; native collagen in a concentration less than 5 %. The invention also concerns a method for bonding biological tissues together or to an implanted biological material using this adhesive composition. The invention is useful for preventing post-operative adhesions.
