Locking plate fixation for the treatment of comminuted distal radius fracture in young adults

2010
Objective To investigate the clinical features and surgical outcomes of treatment of the distal radius fractures in young adults. Methods 17 patients with distal radius fractures underwent open reduction and internal fixation with locking plate, early functional exercise postoperatively. Results All the patients were followed up for 8~16(mean 10.0±3.4) months.Boney union was obtained in all the patients. The clinical outcomes were evaluated according to Dinest grading:13 patients were graded as excellent,3 good, and 1 fair. Conclusions The distal radius fractures in young adults are usually resulted from the high-energy injury, and most of which are unstable fractures;Early open reduction and internal fixation with locking plate will be more satisfied with the clinical outcomes.
