The conflict between virtuality and reality in videogames

Our research aims to approach from a psychoanalitical point of view the issues of actuality in video games for the clinic of the subject by applying the conceptions of actual and virtual particular to psychoanalysis. From Lacan’s conception of virtual, we would like to show that the virtual does not represent every possibility but determines, as it is impossible, actuality. Through the digital mediation enabled by computers, video games create a melting pot of sorts, a place calling for symbolic reality.
