Dialing method and gateway equipment

The invention discloses a dialing method comprising the following steps of: matching an FXO (Foreign Exchange Office) interface according to a received number when gateway equipment receives the number dialed by a user through an FXS (Foreign Exchange Station) interface; when the matching is successful, carrying out offhook on the matched FXO interface, sending a dialing request to a public switched telephone network (PSTN) by the matched FXO interface, and carrying out overlapped dialing on the received number through the matched FXO interface in a dual tone multiple frequency (DTMF) way when a dial tone is received; and when receiving the number dialed by the user is determined to be ended, carrying out time slot connection between the FXS interface and the FXO interface, and sending a ringback tone to the user to enable the user to wait for conversation. Based on the same inventive concept, the invention also provides the gateway equipment capable of realizing FXO calling under the conditions that the dialing habit of the user is not influenced and the calling time is not prolonged.
