A high directivity fabry-perot antenna based on metamaterial substrate

2018
A Fabry-Perot resonator (FPR) antenna with metamaterial substrate which is fed by air-coupled patch antenna is presented in this paper. The FPR resonator consists of a partially reflective surface (PRS) formed by one metamaterial substrate, two layers offrequency selective surface (FSS) and metal ground plane. This three layers of substrate stuck together as PRS is constructed to lower the profile of the resonator antenna and enhance the directive performance. The influence of a left-handed metamaterial (LHM) substrate attached to the FSS is illustrated. From the results obtained, it is noted that in the presence of the LHM substrate, the Fabry-Perot resonator antenna becomes more directive, and has a gain enhancement by 8.4dB at 14GHz.
